Smart Experience Design (DES3047)

Class Objectives
  • Develop the ability to identify where emerging technologies such as AI and IoT create new possibilities for human experience, and reframe those intersections as designable opportunities
  • Build a research-grounded methodology for concept development, from defining a problem and establishing design rationale to proposing a product or service direction
  • Cultivate self-directed project management skills by independently planning and executing a long-term project across research, concept development, and final refinement
  • Produce exhibition-ready outcomes that communicate design concepts with both logical clarity and visual conviction, whether as concept panels, UX/UI systems, or interactive demonstrations
  • Strengthen the ability to present and defend design decisions through recurring critique sessions, developing logical persuasiveness alongside visual communication
What You Will Learn
  • How to treat AI, IoT, and other emerging technologies as design materials and translate their capabilities into meaningful product or service concepts
  • How to conduct and synthesize research into insights that actively drive concept development, establishing a clear rationale for every design decision
  • How to shape a design concept into a well-articulated, visually persuasive outcome suited for an exhibition context
  • How to manage a self-directed, semester-long project by setting milestones, incorporating feedback, and progressively raising the quality of the outcome within given constraints
  • How to present a research-backed design concept with visual clarity and logical persuasiveness in a formal critique setting
